Paradores – Spain

Downtown Santo Domingo de la Calzada

Visiting Spain this year for your honeymoon or looking for that special romantic getaway?  Paradores are state-run hotels located throughout mainland Spain and the Canary Islands.  Imagine your stay in a restored medieval castle, palace, monastery or Arab fortress that compliments modern style, comfort, and luxury.  From 3 star to 5 star accommodations, the rates for these exceptional lodgings are quite affordable for everyone’s style.  Since the opening of the first Parador in 1928, each location is surrounded by incredible views, outstanding service, and an extensive selection of menus are offered to appetize every traveler’s palate.

From the hilltops surrounding the ocean to never ending vineyards in some of the most famous wine regions of the world, you will never leave a Parador disappointed.  My experience in a
Parador was incredible as I stayed in a small town called ‘Santo Domingo de la Calzada.’  This small town located in the rolling hills of La Rioja is surrounded by vineyards and the hospitality brought to us by the locals is a memory that I will never forget.  Time stood still while exploring this little town off the beaten path with great little family restaurants and eateries, incredible local wineries to visit nearby but most of all, the spectacular views.  The Parador, ‘Santo Domingo’ is a combination of luxury and comfort in a restored monestary that still has many unique qualities.  The rooms are quite large with large poster beds but modernized with a touch of history.  The service offered by the staff was amazing and I loved the peacefulness of this location as it felt like I was in my own private hotel despite the fact that it was fully booked.  My stay was one that I didn’t want to leave.

My next visit to Spain will certainly include more Paradores.  These are the perfect locations for that once in a lifetime honeymoon or romatic getaway.
